Age Discrimination

Age discrimination by public and private U.S. employers is prohibited by the federal Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), which bars the unequal treatment of workers who are 40 years of age and older in companies with 20 or more employees. Anyone claiming age discrimination must show that age was the primary factor that led to their unequal treatment in the workplace, similar to other types of discrimination. This section includes links ADEA articles in FindLaw's Employee Rights section; an overview of age discrimination in federally funded health programs; information about age discrimination in education; and more.
